Bean Diary: Week 1

As part of our learning over the next few weeks, we will be making a ‘bean diary’ where we will record how the plant has changed each week. If you had a go at planting runner beans at home, you are welcome to draw your own plant in your bean diary!

You will need paper, a pencil and some coloured pencils.

Have a look at the picture of the runner bean. What does it look like? Can you draw the bean in ‘week 1’ of your bean diary?

Charlie challenge: can you think of a word to describe the bean? Have a go at writing the initial sound next to your picture (for example, ‘s’ for small).

Please upload a picture of your runner bean diary to Tapestry and come back next week for an update on Miss Wright’s runner bean plant!

Miss Hunter’s Weekly Challenge

Each week Miss Hunter will be setting you a challenge.

This week’s challenge is to draw a dinosaur. Sounds easy… but this challenge needs to be completed with your eyes closed! Once you’ve drawn your outline, you are allowed to open your eyes and colour the dinosaur in.

Don’t forget to upload your pictures to Seesaw!

Maths Measuring with Superworm

Watch the video to help you understand one of this week’s maths activities from the learning pack for this week. You don’t need to do them all in one go!

⭐️Make some superworms using spaghetti, string or playdough. Can you put them in size order? Which one is the longest/shortest? Are any the same length? Challenge: Try measuring with a ruler or tape measure.

Check the learning pack for more tasks for the week.

Plant a magic bean with Miss Wright

Hello everybody!

Our new words for this week are ‘grow’ and ‘planting.’ I had a go at planting my own bean like Jasper the cat! This means that I have put the bean in some soil so that it can grow. Can you have a go at planting your own bean?

You will need:
– runner bean seeds
– a small plant pot
– soil
– a garden tool for scooping (a tablespoon or cup also work fine!)

Make sure you keep your pot in a sunny spot and water the bean every day. This will help it to grow!

Don’t worry if you can’t plant your own bean at home, as I will be posting a picture of my bean plant every week.

Happy planting!
From Miss Wright 🙂

Learning Projects

Watch the video to help you understand some of this week’s learning projects from the learning pack for this week. You don’t need to do them all in one go!

⭐️ Design and make one or a family of superworms. Use string, pasta, beads, cheerios, an old sock stuffed with paper etc. Challenge: Can you make a repeating pattern? Make the worms ‘super’ by creating capes or superhero costumes.

⭐️ Find out a bit more about worms. Then try and create a wormery following these instructions. Challenge: Which day of the week will you find the most bugs outside? Think of a way of recording this.

⭐️ The Islamic tradition of Ramadan begins this week in the 9th month of the Muslim calendar and lasts for a month. This is followed by a celebration called ‘Eid al- fitr’. During Ramadan, Muslims fast during the day. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and means not eating or drinking. Eid is a time of celebration to mark the end of Ramadan. Muslims may decorate their hands with beautiful henna at this time. Can you design your own henna pattern? What else can you find out about Ramadan and Eid?

Check the learning pack for more tasks for the week.
