Designing sky scrapers in maths

Today we designed our own sky scrapers for Queen’s Hills. Mrs James told us that every day for a week, we could add two windows. In pairs we designed our sky scrapers and wrote addition and multiplication sentences to find out how many windows we would have built by the end of the week. We found out that:

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 14 windows

7 x 2 + 14 windows

Ancient Greeks next week!

In the last week, we have delved deeper into the characters and settings in Shadow of the Minotaur and have created some excellent descriptive pieces from this stimulus in our English lessons. We enjoyed our Maths Cafe on Monday too, where we all tackled mathematical problems themed around looking after some unusual pets!

We are looking forwards to our visit from History Off the Page for an Ancient Greek workshop next Wednesday (16th October) and can’t wait to dress up for this – have a look at these websites for costume ideas if you’re stuck!

This week we have been exploring the autumn colours, leaves and objects. The children collected and sorted the leaves in different ways. The children have been enjoying exploring how much a number represents with some numberblocks construction this week.

Amelia Earhart

n topic this week, we ordered the photographs chronologically from Amelia Earhart’s photo album. We had to work as detectives and look closely at her face in the photographs. Here are some photographs from our lesson:

Learning all about food miles
