This half term Year 2 are learning about digital photography. They have learnt what makes a good photograph and have used this knowledge to take high quality photographs of objects in the classroom and outdoor scenery.
Year 2
Year 2 History
Year 2 have started their History topic all about the Titanic. First they used their inference skills to examine a piece of evidence. Then they created a ‘Talking Timeline’ showing the key events during the Titanic’s journey in chronological order.
Year 2 Maths
Today Year 2 have been applying the multiplication and division skills they have been practising in lessons and became tiny teachers! They worked together in pairs to mark a Maths quiz Miss Hunter had completed and fixed any mistakes they found.
Year 2 – Fabric Printing
This week Year 2 finished their dip dye unit by printing onto their dyed fabric using the printing blocks they made earlier in the unit. They chose one colour of paint and carefully printed a repeating pattern on to their fabric. They did an amazing job!
Year 2 – Computing
This week Year 2 have been learning all about algorithms. They drew maps and mazes then programmed their Bee-bots so that they could move from one place to the next.
Year 2 – Art
This week Year 2 have started their next Art unit. First, they made their own printing blocks and practised printing with them to make repeated patterns. Next, they dip dyed fabric to create a multicoloured surface ready to print on to next week. They have done a brilliant job so far and we can’t wait to see the finished project.
Year 2 – Flight
Year 2 have kick started their ‘History of Flight’ unit with a whole day of flight related activities. The children made hot air balloons, had a paper areophane competition and even took a trip on Queen’s Hill Airlines! They will be learning all about aviation in History and English lessons this half term.
Year 2 Kite Festival
This morning Year 2 tested out their kites in their very own Kite Festival. There was some very successful flying and some kites that needed a few repairs along the way! The children had a great time and were able to talk about why the materials they had chosen were a good choice for a kite or not.
Year 2 – Science
This half term Year 2 have been exploring everyday materials and their suitability for different purposes. After testing the materials, they designed and made their own kites ready to test them next week in our Year 2 Kite Festival.
Year 2 – Writing
For the last couple of weeks Year 2 have been investigating a crime that happened in their classrooms! They were reading the book ‘I Want My Hat Back’ in English and then made there own hats but one night after school a hat went missing. The children used the clues left in the crime scene by the thief to work out who their main suspects were. They then wrote questions to ask the eye witnesses and suspects to help them gather even more evidence. After a careful investigation they were able to identify the thieves and find the missing hats. The children have written detailed crime scene reports of their investigation to tell the other teachers all about this shocking event!
