Trips and Visitors
Swimming Gala Success!
The Queen’s Hills swimming team swam at the UEA Interschools Gala last Thursday. They all swam brilliantly, winning many of their races. Of all the schools that competed, we were placed third, which is a huge achievement for our first major gala. A big well done to you all. We are very proud of you.
Year 6 WWII Trip
Year 6 came dressed in WWII themed outfits for their school trip to the Time and Tide museum in Great Yarmouth yesterday. They travelled back in time to 1941 when Great Yarmouth was in the thick of the action as a ‘front line town’. They Discovered how the war affected people on the home front and met an ARP warden, housewife, shopkeeper and Home Guard soldier.
Year 4 Times Table Breakfast Cafe
We had a great turn out for our Year 4 Times Table Breakfast Cafe! Everyone enjoyed a range of times table quizzes, board games and activities to help them learn their times tables.
Winter Fair Success!
Thanks to the friends of QHPS for organising an amazing winter fair this evening. It bought festive cheer to us all on a cold Friday afternoon!
Year 5 #WeWill Sing
A year of practicing finally paid of in such a spectacular way!
Y5 performed at the #WeWill Sing concert, held at Orminston Victory Academy. They performed three songs and not only did then have to learn the words they also performed the songs in BSL ensuring inclusivity to all.
We are so proud of Y5 for their dedication to this project and thank #WeWill Sing for the opportunity to preform and raise money for such worthy causes.
Year 1 Autumn Walk
We went on our own adventure today. We spotted lots of signs of Autumn on our walk. When we got back to school we talked about where we had gone and what we had seen. We learnt about time conjunctions to help us retell and then write a recount of our walk.
Y5 – Visitor
Y5 are currently exploring the enquiry question ‘How has belief in Christianity and Islam impacted on music and art through history?’ To help launch our enquiry Y5 had a visit from Reverend Laura Montgomery, who spoke to the children about Christian art and music. They discussed the importance of religious art and music and how it has changed over history.
Reverend Laura Montgomery shocked the children by playing them music they were familiar with but had not originally made the link back to Christianity.
Remembrance Assembly
Thank you to all those who joined us for Remembrance Assembly this morning. I think we can all agree that the Year 6’s presented themselves with the utmost respect and decorum for this special occasion. They have been working hard to learn their lines off by heart and deliver them to a huge audience with confidence and clarity. Year 3 pupils also created their own poppies and our school canteen kindly created special poppy cakes in recognition of remembrance day.
Well done Year 6 for bringing a tear to many an eye this morning! You should be very proud of yourselves.
In Flanders Fields, by John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Year 5 – Author Visit
On Wednesday, some children in Year 5 enjoyed a visit to the bookshop ‘Bookbugs and Dragon Tales’ for an author visit. We learnt about the process of making a book from the first draft through to the final published copy. We explored a book called, ‘The Five Peppers’ which was written over 100 years ago about a family with 5 children called ‘The Peppers’. We are looking forward to reading the book in school. We also got to design our own front covers and choose some books for our class libraries.
