Crime Scene!

The children couldn’t believe it this week when they saw a crime scene in the classroom! After lots of investigating and demanding to see the CCTV the children decided that it must have been Goldilocks breaking in. The week has been filled with creating lots of wanted posters, police investigations and designing and making traps to capture Goldilocks.

Chinese New Year in Reception

This week in Reception we have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the rat. We have made lanterns to decorate our classroom and we have each done a piece of writing on an animal of our choice from the ancient story.

Counting in Reception

This week Reception looked at counting. On Friday we used a graph to find out the classes favourite fruit. In Les Papillion Rouge the favourite was strawberry but Les Papillion Bleu chose apple and Les Papillion Vert picked bananas.

Our Place in the World

Today we launched our new school topic ‘Our Place in the World’. Children across all the school have been finding out about the UN rights of the child, designing their own ideal city, exploring the history of famous Kings and Queens and having a go at Morris dancing!

A busy week back in Reception

This week we have enjoyed finding out about the children’s Christmas holidays. Les Papillons Verts were intrigued by this tarantula cast brought in by one of the children. They practised their art skills by looking closely and drawing what they could see. They enjoyed singing incy wincy spider and made spiders and water spouts in their busy time.

Mysterious Footprints in Reception

This morning the Reception classrooms had some mysterious footprints. They led to a letter from Santa asking the children to send him their Christmas lists. This week the children are applying their phonics knowledge to write these letters. They have been working on folding the paper into the envelope and used scissor skills to cut out and stick on a stamp. Hopefully they will get to the North Pole in time!

Voting in Reception

Today Les Papillions Rouges talked about the election. We decided to vote for what we watched at snack time. The children used a piece of Duplo to choose what they wanted to watch.

Art Rocks!

Art club used acrylic paint to decorate rocks they found in the school playground. See if you can spot them as we hide them in locations around Queen’s Hill.

If you find one, hide it in a new location for another person to find.

Jack Frost Visits Reception

In Reception we have been thinking about the weather and seasonal changes. Children went ice hunting after noticing that Jack Frost had visited! We enjoy exploring how ice changes and the children were then interested in looking at animals living in colder climates.

This week the children have also been learning the PANTS rules from NSPCC. They enjoyed the Pantosaurus song.
