We’re delighted to announce that we have been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award.
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England. The Artsmark award provides a clear framework for teachers and education professionals to plan, develop and evaluate their arts and cultural provision.
We were commended for our level of commitment to providing a range of high quality arts and cultural experiences for pupils and our work in raising the profile of the arts across the school.
Key Stage 2
Remembrance Service
Today we marked remembrance day with a whole school service led by our year 6 pupils. We were joined by members of the community, ex-servicemen who work in our school and our school governing body.
Year 5 Greek Day
Year 5 have begun reading Journey to Jo’burg this week and have enjoyed discussing the themes contained in this book during our English lessons. We have also been practising with written methods for multiplication, including the Grid Method.
We forgot to mention before half term, but Year 5 had an amazing time at our Ancient Greek’s experience day too – check out the images to see some of the things we got up to!
Aztec artwork
Year 4 have been busy in their art lessons this week, creating their own Aztec-inspired artwork using oil pastel and watercolour.
Earthsong 2019
At Queen’s Hill, we care about climate change. Here is our version of the Earthsong, organised and arranged by our school ambassadors thanks to Torquay Girls’ Grammar School. These children are encouraging everyone to sign the following petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/272167
Making Greek Shields
Year 5 have greatly enjoyed creating their Ancient Greek ‘Hoplite’ shields this week, and are very proud that some of them have now gone on display! They are excited to start learning more about Ancient Greek civilizations and culture in the next few days…They have all worked hard on the latest aspect of the Respect Focus too – with many of them now becoming excellent at holding doors open for others.
‘On The Move’ Curriculum Day
Today at Queen’s Hill Primary School, pupils were treated to a day of transport-inspired activities to launch our new topic ‘On The Move’. Children got to have a go at fixing a car tyre, experience what it might be like to be on board an aircraft and found out more about train safety with a visitor from Network Rail.
Respectful Learning Community
This half-term we are focusing as a whole school on ‘developing a respectful learning community’. In assembly yesterday, the children voted for the growth mindset crowns that they felt would be most relevant for this focus. The children chose challenge, teamwork, creativity and reflection!
Danger-Us Club go Skiing
Danger-Us club really enjoyed their trip to the slopes at Norfolk Snowsports Centre on Wednesday 10th July – they had the chance to ski from different heights and even competed to see who could do the most tricks!
