Sheep Week!

Last week we welcomed sheep to Reception and Queen’s Hill! The children helped to look after them, made sure they have enough hay and water and helped to feed the ewe. As the sheep became more comfortable in the field, some children even got to stroke the lambs. Alongside learning about the sheep and farming, they have also been learning ‘Mary had a little lamb’ and made a personalised song using their name and pet or animal.

Everyone at school was very sad to see Baarbara, Baarbie and Baarnaby leave us!

Year 2 Maths

Today Year 2 have been applying the multiplication and division skills they have been practising in lessons and became tiny teachers! They worked together in pairs to mark a Maths quiz Miss Hunter had completed and fixed any mistakes they found.

Outdoor Art y5

Last week in year 5, we started to learn about cityscapes and landscapes. We started by learning about two artists: Vanessa Gardiner and Phil Dean, the Shoreditch sketcher. This week, we were inspired by their work to go outside and create our own multi-media cityscapes of Queen’s Hill.

Trip to Pets at Home

We have been learning about pets and how to look after animals. Today year 1 went on a visit to Pets at home to see some pets and find out more about how to care for animals. We found toys, food and and pet beds. We also saw some very cute rabbits, rats and even a bearded dragon!

Dentist visit

Last week we had Marijka from John Plummers dental surgery visit our Reception and Year 1 children. She taught us about the different tools they use at the dentist, why we visit the dentist and how to look after our teeth. We learnt about making healthy choices for our teeth and about brushing them twice daily for 2 minutes.

Reception Maths outdoors!

Children enjoyed playing a target game outside, throwing hoops over cones to score points. They kept score using our ten frames and the first one to ten was the winner. Children did a brilliant job of noticing how many they had scored and how many they needed to get to ten!

Year 3 non-chronological reports

Year 3 are very proud of their amazing non-chronological reports. They were able to share them with year 2 and even take a copy home.

They have worked incredibly hard, showing off all of their amazing Ancient Egyptian knowledge.

Mayan Prints in Year 6

This week in Art, Year 6 created brilliant Mayan prints. Inspired by the geometric shapes and repeating patterns used by the Maya people, children first made cardboard tiles and glued on their designs using string. They then painted the string on the tile and pressed down onto their piece of paper using a variety of colours. We were impressed by their creativity and concentration during this process!

Year 2 – Fabric Printing

This week Year 2 finished their dip dye unit by printing onto their dyed fabric using the printing blocks they made earlier in the unit. They chose one colour of paint and carefully printed a repeating pattern on to their fabric. They did an amazing job!

Y5 Geography visitor

This week Mr Marsh and Dr Richardson came to talk to us about flood defences as part of our geography topic. We have been learning about rivers and this was the perfect end to our topic. We got to experiment with different types of flood defences and even got to build some of our own. A huge thank you to them for giving up their time to share their important work with us.
