Descriptive writing in Year 6

This week, Year 6 have continued exploring emotive character descriptions based on the key text, ‘Rose Blanche’. They have learnt all about figurative language and its effect on the reader. Working as a class, they compiled everyone’s ideas to create a shared write based on a specific point in the text. We think they have demonstrated excellent creativity and teamwork to produce such a powerful image of Rose in the reader’s mind. See if you can identify excellent examples of similes, personification, alliteration and ambitious vocabulary in their paragraph below.

‘Her tear-filled, sorrowful, sapphire-blue eyes were like neverending waterfalls. Broken and fragile, her heart sank down into her malnourished, rumbling stomach which screamed in pain. Rose’s once golden hair was now as dark and gloomy as the forgotten forest. Slow shivers pulsed through her body as she looked over the empty clearing. Her cold, pale hand clutched a wilting blue flower; the only thing alive in this barren wasteland.’

Keeping our school tidy

Year 1 have been helping to keep our school tidy during busy time. Some children chose to use litter pickers to pick up any rubbish that they saw.

1, 10, 100 more and less

Year 3 have worked super hard on partitioning this week and have explored 1, 10, 100 more and less today.

They were able to use base 10, place value counters and arrow cards to support them.

We are so proud of their grit and determination.

Year 3 Music

Year 3 enjoyed beginning their Charanga unit on glockenspiels yesterday.

They looked at notes D and E and impressed Miss Peek with their call and response skills!

Year 2 Geography

Year 2 have started their first Geography unit where they will be comparing Norwich to Shanghai by looking at local Norwich landmarks and constructing models of them. Each class worked on a different landmark and produced replicas of Norwich Castle, the Cathedral and Carrow Road.

Year 3 Maths

Year 3 have enjoyed using different manipulatives to partition numbers to 1000.

They showed great concentration and independence.

Year 4 Roman Day

Year 4 had a fantastic Roman day with Centurion Titus. They completed a Roman soldier Boot Camp, created mosaics and practised using Roman numerals. We look forward to learning more about the Romans in our history topic for the rest of this term.

Year 1 Spiral Art

In Year 1, we have been learning about spiral art. We were inspired by spirals in nature and created our own spiral art! We then hosted an art gallery where we displayed our work and discussed each other’s final piece.

Year 3 Research

Year 3 have been exploring Greta Thunberg. They are looking at sustainability and the book ‘Greta and the Giants’.

Today, they showed great independence when researching their own facts about her in order to create a biography next week.
